I made an ebony staff of intelligence, because then if I fail to cast the spell I can try a bunch more times. Why take enchanting when you can do alteration (or restoration, I forget which) to fortify magic for 2 seconds to 400pts, fortify intelligence by the same, and basically you can enchant anything. You'll suck at most of it, but some can be circumvented with magic. Honestly, you can get good at everything, and with TR and other mods you might as well try everything. Intelligence is super important for a mage, but I'd suggest keeping every int skill a misc (there are only like 3 or 4) so that you can raise it via trainers. Str is really useful, but 50 different skills level it so only get one or two points. For one's you really need, make sure you have options to save money at low levels. Make sure that at least one of every skill is represented in your misc skills. In general you don't want too many of your stats like str, int, personality to be in major or minor because they are easy to train or level (and by level 8-12 money ceases to be an issue, so find the trainers that like you most). The stuff you use all the time, like sneak, athletics, jumping, enchant leave as misc. That way you always have one of those two stats at 10/10. Willpower and Endurance, so that you can focus on being a mage or a fighter, and every level go all willpower or all endurance (endurance first). If you can try to get all of your major and minor skills in important stuff with lots of options.
